I think you will find that the head gasket is the
other way around. The head gasket for water pump use has smaller holes than the head gasket for
thermo syphon or non water pump use.I always understood that this was to let the non pressure
flow move through the gasket easier with the bigger holes. Very often the use of the small hole gasket without a water pump will restrict flow and cause overheating problems.(the small hole is about half inch round and the big hole is an odd shape that matches the water passage in the block and head measuring about one inch across)
