The hot wire is the one that goes from the coil to the center of the distributor. The key/run switch needs to be on. Unplug it from the center of the distributor and hold it near the metal of the tractor so that you will be able to see a spark when you advance the distributor. You can remove the distributor cap and watch the points open while doing this. That makes it easier to watch whats happening. I guess another word for it would be High Voltage wire.
A tractor that's been setting for a while will have a Christmas list of things to deal with but if you pick away at them one at time, you will be so proud of yourself when its all finished and running good.
