Make a margin and move it. Don't let it hang around enough for whiners and moaners to try and get it out from under you for nothing. Seems like the scrappers have a good business plan to me. It just ticks some people off that their goldmine of cheap used parts, tractors, and antique equipment are gone. I don't like it either, but that's the reality of it. Pony up and pay, or watch it go away.
I got $400 a ton for just over a ton of used cast iron and cast steel plow shares last summer. Most were shot, and a few were like new and had alot of use left, but were not popular parts and had sat here a decade too long. I didn't seperate steel from iron. With no tires, no fluids, and no glass I got no BS. $220/ton was the payout for vehicles, tractors, etc. at the time. I'm sure they made money off of them, too. I wonder what a person could have got from them at the time for 20 tons of rear weights? Probably better than $500/ton. They would have made money on those, too.
Rear wheel weights at around $80 a pair give or take a few bucks sounds about right to me. The days of $40/pr. are long gone here. If it's something usable and functional, it's worth more than scrap price, if it isn't, it's worth what it weighs.
$1/lb price for IH suitcase weights is mostly driven by collectors and pullers, and not scrap prices. Even though IH rear weights generally sell for well under $1/lb., collectors and pullers don't let those get given away, either.
