When I'm going down the road and hit a bump or the front end bounces there is a metal on metal knocking noise. I'm sure some sound might be normal but probably not this much. Sounded like the front pedestal was loose and I actually did tighten it up a bit. I went through and repacked the spindle bearings and checked them. My sense is the noise comes from the upper bolster shaft having too much verticle motion. I didn't get the sense that the shaft was moving front to back in a loose bushing. I've never had a Farmall front end apart, what are some of the common solutions? Might the fix be as easy as taking off the bolster cap, removing a cotter pin, and tightening a nut above the thrust bearing? As always, I appreciate the help.
