When Farmers first started putting duals on farmalls they would narrow up the orginal tires by dishing them in and than take the rear tires and cast centers from another tractor and slide them onto the axel dished out. It was a tight fit but could be done. From there local blacksmiths would start making clamp-on rims than companys like M & W started making axel hubs and spacers so the duals could straddle a row than the tractor builders came out with extended axel options.
