They did that with some Ford tractors too. Back in the 1920s and 1930s their manufacturing processes were extremely crude. Henry Ford was helping them with their Ford copies but gave up in exaperation when he couldn't convince them that each piston should weigh close to the same. His engineers were finding the same engine would have both cast and forged pistons (1 or 2 of either depending on the factory making them) and couldn't convince the factory operators to end the practice.
