This tractor has a PTO like a 574 IMO. I have had a 574 open and it is not as described by the other post. You have a hydraulic clutch pack similar to a clutch pack in an automatic transmission. If the clutch pack is bad, it sounds as if it is, the hytran oil will be dark and may be smelly. The clutch pack can be changed in a 574 w/o dismantling a lot of the rearend of the tractor. You will need to drain the hytran, remove the side cover and pull the PTO shaft. All of this is simple and straight forward. The hardest problem is getting the pin driven from the shaft at the clutch pack. Putting the pin back in is even more trying but it can be done with patience and luck. The clutch pack cost approximately $70 a couple of years ago. You will need to change the hytran and the hydraulic filter as they will be contaminated from the destroyed pto clutch fibers. Good luck
