Now reread his message. There is a hole through the PTO shaft, and your mower connection probably has a small hole that will line up with that hole if you put the connection on the right spline. That is where a nail was suggested. I use a bolt, as was suggested, nylock nut keeps it on. Farm stores carry a pin with a large half-circle keeper that can be used. Farm supply stores carry the plungers and springs, but good luck, there are lots of styles. And most old connections have lost their plungers. You could buy a new end and change the u-joint for $75.
