The M&W pump doesn't have the gallons/minute that the IH pump has. I think it is 10 GPM vs 15 GPM. Consequently, it is not doing as much work. I doubt if many farmers replaced the cam gears on their older M's when installing the aftermarket pump.
Of course, either pump can be deadheaded and that will put stress on the gear. If you set the relief valve on the valve bank low enough, that relief valve will protect the gear. What's low enough? I don't know. Maybe 1000 PSI.
