I see you have all the bolts removed from that shaft housing. DON'T try to pull it if you haven't removed the bull gear from inside the case. The housing is notched out and fits over the bull gear, if you force it you WILL break it.
You can beat the old seal to death and pry it out without any further dis assembly. The original seals were double thickness with two lips. The new seal is probably thinner, and there is probably room in the housing for two of them. You need to be sure that the drum is not rough or grooved where the seal rides in it. If it is smooth, but grooved, use one thin seal and try to install it so that it does not ride in the groove.
