If you don't have anyone else to help, you can also pull the valve cover and watch the rocker arms for #1 open and close, then look for the timing mark, and slowly advance it until it is in line with the pointer, and that will be close enough to Top Dead Center compression stroke for #1 cylinder to get you timed correctly.
