If you have a good battery (You know that the voltage is any where from 11.8 to 13.5 volts DC for a twelve volt battery) Your voltage is what turns the starter, The amount of amps pulled is determind by the drive load, the more that you load the battery it reduces the voltege whitch causes the amp load to incress as it tryes to compinsate for the voltage drop.if you get a bad cell in a battery you dont loose amps , you loose voltage about 2 volts per cell.
If you have a good battery and a bad terminal you will find that the starter turns slow and the cable gets hot , This is because the resistence in the bad terminal lower the voltage and it try to draw more amps to compencate.
