It could. If it has a good size flywheel on the shaft the issue is probably not a problem. If there is non, and the chipper wheel is light as well it could tear up drive components. A rubber dampened drive shaft would help. Stay within the guidelines of the chipper. Hardwood is much more difficult to chip, as are dead dry material. Keeping the knives sharp, and adjusted to correct clearance, is also critical. Jim
