The tractor was a "distillate" tractor, designed to start on gasoline (small tank) and run on distillate (large tank) when warmed up. under the tanks you will find the necessary valves for switching one to the other, unless that stuff has been removed. The tractor has been around long enough that it's likely been considerably modified from the original setup. It originally had the distillate, or "hot" manifold, which has almost certainly been replaced by now if the tractor has been working on gasoline. It also came with a distillate head, which was low-compression, and that means a small horsepower sacrifice unless it's been replaced, or the engine equipped with high-compression (high altitude) pistons. Most of these old tractors have either had the small tank removed, or used as a reserve gasoline tank. Unless there is proof to the contrary, assume this thing is used to running on gasoline.
