there are several things to check the lever that enguages the pto sleeve is spring loaded check the pin on the arm it may be worn off you will see the screw slot below the shift lever this loads a spring to keep it enguaged the end of the sliding tube has two slots they have to be sharp and not worn or the taper in them will force it out of gear holding the shift lever will wear off the pin on the shift lever you will see when it is removed you might want to take off the trans cover this will allow you to see how it works probably the first thing to do lots of mowers around here so in30 yrs exp with mowers been there done that glad to help
