I used heavy 90 wt oil and I believe that is what is recommended in the shop manual. The shaft has a built in pump that circulates the oil along the shaft while turning and a circular reservoir to hold the excess oil. If you let it run without lube it will burn out quickly (don't ask me how I know). Also be very careful to seal the reservoir end or the oil will spin out when turning. Check it after you have it assembled. If oil spins out when running you do not have it sealed.
