I'm with d282, it could be a bent- broken rocker arm or a bent push rod. My dad owns a 966 with D414 and we have had 2 rocker arms fail and one push rod to get bent and it did the same thing with a little knock each time it did it. The engine in this tractor must be a early model- the new rocker arms are heavier built than the ones on it that fail. FE
