Depending on supplier they were either galvanized or same red as the wheels. I have a couple sets of 39 F-20 cast, one set galvanized, one set dipped in the same red as centers. Sme people use aluminum paint, some expensive auto paint they swear is the closest match possible. To me the rustoleum aluminum looks a lot closer to the original galvanized, I compared side by side to the rim I had that was in very good shape when I took the tire off looked like new and it was bright.
