UPDATE on my Cub tranny

Well, finally my Cubb tranny noise got the better of me, so I took her apart again. This time, I completely emptied the case of gears. I took out the reverse idler and both shafts so I could get a good look at what was happening. I took all of the output shaft gears out and put them in order on the makeshift workbench I had (you KNOW what's coming here...) then I dropped them. So I had to call my son at my place, have him get out the parts book and explain how they all go back together. Last time I deduced, with Big Don's help, that the reverse idler and the reverse gear were making most of the noise. I found out that there are two identical gears in there, and that I could swith the reverse gear with the better one. I did, and it seemed to quiet it down quite a bit. Not as much as I wanted, but there had been water in there, and some gears were pitted rather badly, so there was bound to be some noise. The one I switched out meshes well, so I was pretty proud of myself. You can also turn gears around so that rounded teeth face the other way. Kind of gives them a new start....kind of. I will be posting pics of the Cub when I get them back. Thanks for all of the help. I learned quite a bit about the drive train.
