1952 H Carb Question, Simple, I Hope

Quick queston, I am waiting on a manual for my 1952 H but in the meantime I purchased a carb kit and removed the carb. The carb seems to be pretty straight forward EXCEPT for one thing, on the bottom of the carb, in front of the mixture needle that is set at a 45 degree slant, there seems to be a flat silver plug with a hole drilled in it. Left as is this would be a source of unfiltered air directly into the carb (bad thing) Could someone tell me what it is supose to be?
