First filter the fuel gets to should bleed gravity from tank unless there's a problem in lines or water trap. Final should have primary pump pressure if pump is getting fuel flow. Yes some will run without the primary pump working. If you have fuel flow and no pressure on the pump gauge, check the primary pump again. Did you check the pump out for a problem that may be the cause of coupling to fail? Sometimes the primary pumps have gear damage or gear clearance problems when the coupling fails.
