My choke rod connects to the choke shaft on the side of the carburetor nearest the engine. It runs through the opening in the air cleaner mount, then through a hanger bolted to the rear bolt under the gas tank. There is a 1 and 1/2" loop at the end that is just at the left rear corner of the battery. Pulling out on this rod closes the choke. If your engine starts good cold without choking I suspect the mixture is set too rich. Also, my engine turns over just fine with the origional 6V system. Remember, these old engines were ment to start at low RPM. Dave BN.
