Definitely should have a muffler. My M had no muffler for a long time and it has done my hearing no good at all. Nowadays, even with a muffler I wear good quality hearing protection same as I do with chainsaws, circular saws and firearms. Some people seem to think it a sign of weakness, but it is my hearing at stake, so now I do the right thing.
