Quiet is relative. When I started driving the 47 H at in 1950 at age 12, it had the original muffler, the one with the short pipe. It was replaced 2 or 3 years later with the one you are talking about (I think). It was not quiet, but had the "original" sound (I like that sound) that those mufflers gave. Perhaps they also had a baffled muffler in those days, this one was straight through. As far as I'm concerned the sound of Mark's mufflers are identical to the sound of that old H. I think our ears are different. The current CaseIH mufflers are baffled, at least the one on my Super A is. I still consider it loud, and I've lost at least 50% of my hearing. Hearing is different for different people. To my ears the exhaust is probably 75% of the noise of any tractor. I also hear the roar of the engine, but that ain't no hum.
