I know for sure that the "Regular" had the open steering gears, as in they were out in the open and visible. Could you possibly post a picture of these unsual steering gears and tractor. and is the id tag on the breather you say? like on the air cleaner assembly? I think all the regular and F series tractors had their id tags mounted on either the bellhousing or by the toolbox etc. but not on the air cleaner.....I'm sure some better ideas will come along from others....they always do.
