My power steering is not working well, if at all. I have a row crop model which seems to have been retrofitted from tricycle to wide front axle. The reason I think it's a retro is that there is no hydraulic cylinder controlling the steering. Just a steering gear box. When the tractor is stationary and running, it's hard to move the wheel much at all. When I get moving I can steer, but the wheel often seizes up or feels like something is grinding. It really feels like the the torque generator thingy is all jammed up, not anything in the axle or steering gear. When I make a turn while moving, I often get a serious drop in power, both in the engine and in my hydraulics. I grew a brain cell and checked the fluid in the gear box over the axle and found it to be really low. Filled it up and didn't notice much difference, but did find that my nice new fluid was leaking out where the steering shaft comes in. I just can't win! So I'd love some advice on getting all this nonsense sorted out. What do you guys think is causing the power steering trouble, and how do I fix the leak?
