I have a 48' Cub so I know a little about what I am talking about. First thing I would say is if you can turn the engine over by the fan blades, then it is time for a rebuild. The C-60 engine that the Cub sports is not all that big to start with, so it dosen't have a ton of compression. I rebuilt mine last spring and have less than $250 in the motor. I left the valves alone as they were in good shape. I did bore out the cylinders .15 over, mill the head .30ths, install new rings .15 over, new bearings, head gasket, plugs, points, condensor, rotor. Make sure you take everything off and clean it real good. Espically the crankcase vent tube. Mine now has tremendous compression for what size engine it is. Sorry to ramble on, but I suggest rebuilding the engine. 1: It has a noise, that you can not pinpoint. 2: You can turn it over by the fan blades. Also are you sure it is in the engine and not from the clutch back. Bill {Antique Acres}
