you can time the engine with just a test lite. remove #1 spark plug, crank engine over to compression stroke. locate timing marks on crankshaft balancer. bring the first notch up to the pointer. you will now be at tdc. hook test lite to battery power and use wire from coil to distributor for ground. with points closed, lite will lite. rotate distributor slightly till lite goes out. tighten everything down. should be good to go. from there you can start engine and set timing by ear.
