Jeff: Just to add to the various tire designs, I have pictures of our 1941 MD showing the 4 rib original front tires along with the shallower lugs on the rear. The pictures were taken when it was still fairly new. It was the 6th one built and had a couple other things different such as: Large hand painted word DIESEL on the fuel tank and NO decals on the side of the hood saying Farmall or McCormick-Deering etc (it only had "MD" on the front nose)...I guess the first 6 were built sort of seperate and sent out for evaluation of sorts. What I guess I am saying is that the factory did what ever it took sometimes..including putting on whatever tires would work. harvey
