I think Phil's right, you probably have to take off the side rail. I just had the side rails off my 706 to clean up for a paint job. It's not too hard - 6 bolts up front, 4 in back, 4 below (2 if it's a narrow front.) It might be a good idea to support the clutch housing with a jack. I doubt if it would droop in the middle with the other rail attached, but I didn't take any chances.
