I have an F14 with the 1/8 oversize pistons, and a stock fuel pump. I didn't even put a kit in it when I rebuilt the engine, as the diaphram was good. I just cleaned it up and put it back together. It flows enough fuel that there is a constant stream running back into the tank on the return, even at full throttle.

Check to see if you're getting fuel out of the return. Also, seeing as the pump is leaking anyway, I'd go ahead and get a kit from Gordon Rice and rebuild it. The kits are pretty reasonable.
