The size of the pulleys had nothing to do with HP. The size was important depending on what the belt was used for. Many threshingmachines had large pulleys so say you hooked an M to it you needed a large pulley so you could run the machine at its desired rpms. Seen this happen with an F-20 vs an M. The f-20 ran the machine better than the M. Hammer mils would present the same problems like silage blowers and cutters. Thats why they made different sizes.
