I would not agree that when one side of the TA fails the other side is soon to follow. That may be true if the failure is due to hydraulic failure but a failed sprag clutch will make the low side unusable but the high side may still run for thousands of hours without failing.
The way to check to see if the jerk is coming from the TA is to drive the tractor with the TA lever back and see if it still jerks. If it jerks only with the TA lever ahead there is a good chance the low side clutch is starting to roll over and is near the failure point.
The slow engagement in the forward position is usually caused by wear in the clutch pack assembly. The clutch piston has to travel farther to lock the clutch pack so it takes a little longer for it to engage.
Less than 3000 hours is pretty early for TA problems in a 756. They use the same TA as the 1456 and are usually fairly indestructable in the lower horse power tractors.
A weak MCV pump could also be causing a lot of the problems you are describing. A pressure/flow test of the hydraulic control system would be a good idea before purchasing this one.
