I am fairly sure this new gear just toasted the starter. It started the tractor with the jumper cable. It sounded like the starter was being spun by the ring gear. There was a loud ca-chunk. I shut it down and removed the starter. I guess it was defective. I'll try to get it off the shaft and then will see if the shaft will spin. If it will, I'll order the original parts. If it won't, I'll have to get a new starter.
