They were good balers, as mentioned the key is finding one thats been stored inside and not worn out. Finding one thats not worn out may not be has hard as it sounds. Most of those sold just before the big round bales became popular so they didn't see as much use as their age would indicate. A farmer who bought a new square baler (they weren't cheap then) would likely have followed it up with a new round baler a few years later.

My FIL has a wire tie unit parked in his shed that might see a couple hundred bales a year - over its entire life it may have seen as much use as our 440 saw in a season or two.
