The original owners manual for my 1953 SC states to fill within 1/2" of the bottom of the fill plug opening. It lists the quantity as 6 3/4 pints for a drained system and 8 1/4 pints for a rebuilt unit. Hy-Tran is what is required and not a SAE non-detergent engine oil like in the H and M. The manual refers to the fluid as IH Touch Control Fluid in 1953 which was a name for the hydraulic fluid prior to the introduction of Hy-Tran and most likely the reason for any confusion Hal.
