Ken, I assume this is on a Farmall A or B tractor. The primary purpose of that oil slinger gear is to lub the upper gears when doing belt or PTO work with the tractor when it is not being driven. It is common for that gear to have lost it's teeth. That oil slinger gear was bad on both my A and B when I did a restoration. My theory is that this aluminum gear is in the bottom of the transmission and in the winter when water freezes in the bottom of the transmission this gear freezes into the transmission. When the engine is started and the clutch let out, the upper shaft starts spinning and it tries to turn that gear (which is frozen in). It strips out the teeth and then once a section of teeth is stripped out eventually they all strip out as the gear skips through the missing teeth section. Anyone else have any other theories? Roger
