The 1954 SC Dad bought new in Feb or Mar of '56 had a tall gas cap on it, so they were available at that time. My 240U had a tall cap, but it was on the list of tractors that required the new tall cap, so I ordered a new one by mail. I can't tell the difference externally, except for the black paint and the new one does not fit as good (probably made in China).
