jrp3 , hope im not to late with this , but I did my 48 H last week and the 90 weight oil I got out of the tranny was like a chocolate milkshake, very old and water filled. I put in 6 gallons of kerosene and ran tractor in low gear for 2 minutes . then drained and put in 6 gallons of 90 weight gear oil. wamo no more whining of gears.

Tractor Traction - by Chris Pratt. Our first bout with traction problems came when cultivatin with our Massey-Harris Pony. Up till then, this tractor had been running a corn grinder and pulling a trailer. It had new unfilled rear tires and no wheel weights.
