Something to do good, news/bad news

Rather than pull the govenor apart again, on a whim (sp?) I disconnected the govenor from the carb and started the A. RPM's abound, scared the wife, dogs, cat and me. Thought she was going to blow. Did not make a difference in the position of the throttle linkage at the carb. Sooooooooo now I guess it's rebuild the carberator. I have not rebuilt one in about 25 years. Any tips? Is th IH kit the best to buy? Could use some reassurance.
