Thats not the only head around with the cast # ground off. Some are repaired there and who knows all the other reasons. If the stamped # is suposed to be what the head was, 8574 is a gasoline head for a M. Without the suffix letters can't say if it was cast in 1942 or in the 60 tees. 8574 DC was made as a replacement maybe 10 years after the tractors were made. If the head has a hole at rear for the vent line its probably a M or SM head. Combustion chamber check may be the only option to tell. From the looks of the head studs sticking up, they are longer, or the head or block has material removed.
