On the back of the switch is a bigger wire of open coil thats the light dim resistor and theres one of smaller wire wound around a flat piece thats the field circuit resistor. It should be around 3 ohms but if its open/bad she wont charge in the Low charge switch position.
The switch must be grounded ok as needed otherwise she wont charge at all.
If that resistor is bad/open you can just replace/repair it or the whole switch. You may also look at the switches connections as some may be bad/corroded.
The wire up from FLD on the genny goes to that switch and gets its ground, its direct to ground in hich charge but in Lo it passes thru that resistir then to ground.
