Although you have checked the float and it appeared to operate properly, the only way that gas can run out the bottom of the carb is by a stuck float, float level adjusted too high or an improperly seated float needle assembly. The float level may be adjusted too high and the vibration of cranking the engine will allow the float bowel to overfill. Adjust the float to shut off gas when the float is level with the bottom of top part of the carb.
