The original glow-plugs are 9 amps each. Some newer replacements from Wellman are 10 amps. Relays work fine and save wear and tear on glow-plug switches. Relays like older Ford car and trucks use for the starter motors work great, are cheap, and far exceed the needs of your glow plugs.
