I agree with the other posts. I believe many of these were removed to save on weight for the pulling guys. I believe the gearbox is about 100 lbs, and the cast iron pulleys are around 40 lbs. I have have had three tractors that have the factory delete plate on them. I believe they were ordered that way from the factory. I also own a late "53-"54 SMD. I have an extra drive unit that I will be installing too in the near future. So note taken about the bolts. I agree the tractor does look more complete with the pulley. Good Luck.
