I learned something this past summer that most of you probably already know but I will share it anyway.
On my ’87 Caprice (bought new) I kept loosing the cruise control and the brake/stop lights. The stop light and cruise control switch is on the brake pedal and activates when the pedal is pushed. So I replaced that switch and everything works. So now if I loose the cruise control I know that I also do not have brake lights.
A friend with a’07 Toyota Aries automatic transmission pulled into the yard to chat for awhile. When he went to leave the car started but he could not shift out of Park and when pushing the gas pedal down the engine remained at idle. I did the manual over ride to shift it but it still would not take any gas above an idle. While messing with it I noticed he did not have any Brake/Stop lights. So we found the Brake/Stop light fuse was blown and replaced it and then the car shifted and ran as it should.
So if you are having similar problems with a vehicle, check and see if you have brake lights. The Brake/Stop light circuit seems to affect many different operations.
