Put a dial indicator on the ring gear set so that the plunger is taangent to the direction of rotation (like a string unwinding off of a spool). It should be on a bolt head, or other surface to allow a clean push. Hold the pinion still, and measure the backlash by moving the ring gear until it touches the tooth on the pinionboth forward (drive side) and reverse side of a tooth. Jim
