First thing I'd try, as you installed new points, is to crank it with the cap off (probably need a helper or a remote starting switch) and see if there's a series of sparks at the points as it turns- might just need a points adjustment, might be a touch of oil on the points, etc. If you've got correct gap and sparks there, the primary side is working, then you work upstream to the coil, etc. Many times a bad coil wire will snafu you, but as it was OK until you changed the points, I'd bet on that, pretty common
