It didn't have a filter - only a sediment bowl where heavier particles should settle to the bottom of a glass bowl and a fine screen at the top as the only barrier between the fuel tank and carburator. I've never tried myself, but have read that adding an inline filter with gravity flow will not allow enough fuel to flow. Now I have a filter instead of a screen and it gives ample flow of fuel through the filter. .
