george, i can appreciate saving a buck but when you get tired of spending countless hours messing with this and wish to buy a 12 volt internal resistor coil you can get it from pep boys (it is a borg warner part so you could prob get it elsewhere too) part number bwd ignition coil 0-33086-05490 for 28.99. good luck and i really hope you resolve your problem. the nice thing about using this coil is it looks like the original black with no external resistor.
